Calendar of Events for the month of:

Maimakterion (Makedonian Apellaios) [November]

All presenters will speak during the midday break for ariston (lunch).

This month we will learn about the people who came before us: the Minoans and the first Greeks.

Day 1: Sijapuros of Knossos will discuss the Minoan civilization. This culture has been called the first civilization of Europa. They flourished from 3000 BC to about 1300 BC. What lead to their decline? Come and hear about their developement and their trading networks with Aigyptos (Egypt) and the East.

Day 8: Philowergos of Pylos will talk about our ancestors, the Mycenaeans. Mycenaean civilization dominated this area from 1300 BC to about 1000 BC. Learn about their culture and their widespread trading networks and hear about what may have lead to their decline.

Day 15: Anaximenes of Larisa will discuss the Pelasgians and other groups who came before us. Some say that the Pelasgians came from the Black Sea and then moved west and south into the Aegean. Who were they and where did they settle?

Day 22: Deiphontes of Arkadia will talk about the arrival of the Dorians and other Hellenic tribes from the northwest. The Dorians, Aetolians, Phocians, and Locrians entered into southern Hellas (Greece) Greece around 1200 or 1150 BC. Their arrival set the stage for the flowering of Hellas (Greece).
